Introducing Orion
Today, the platform our team has been building for more than a year and a half finally has a name... Orion!
When I joined Precision eControl as Head of Product and Engineering at the end of July 2024, one of the first problems I was asked to solve was building a new price monitoring application to monitor the web and better support MAP administrators. As we spent time understanding our customers, existing products, technology, and where we wanted to go, it became clear that we had an opportunity to think bigger than a single application.
We decided to build a new platform on a new technology stack and build the team that could bring that vision to life.
While we're 100% remote, we intentionally built most of the engineering team here in the Columbus area. Being in the same time zone as most of our customers makes it easier for engineers to join customer calls, hear problems firsthand, and stay closer to the people using what they're building.
We also wanted the benefits of working together in person without giving up the flexibility of a remote team. Every other week, we get together for our sprint retrospective and planning, followed by lunch together.
That connection between the people building the product and the customers using it has been an important part of how we've worked.
From a product perspective, starting with a greenfield platform gave us the opportunity to rethink the problems we were solving rather than simply recreating our existing Insights platform feature by feature.
After months of analysis, customer conversations, and planning, we started writing the first code for the new platform in February 2025. By March, our first beta customers had access and were giving us feedback.
I'm especially grateful to those early customers who were willing to work alongside us, try something new, tell us what worked and what didn't, and help us make the product better.
In June, just four months after we started writing code, we launched an entirely new platform.
And we kept building.
We continued talking with customers, learning how they worked, and iterating on the platform based on what we learned.
Today, that platform officially becomes Orion.
One of the challenges with brand protection and eCommerce is how fragmented everything has traditionally been. Price monitoring, seller data, MAP enforcement, removing unauthorized sellers, legal escalation, and measuring the business impact can all live in different places.
Orion brings those pieces together.
Much like the constellation Orion, it's about connecting the dots. We're connecting data across the digital shelf to help brands understand what's happening, why it matters, and what actions they should take next.
What started with a focused problem has grown into a much broader platform vision. Orion gives brands one integrated platform to help manage their online presence and grow their eCommerce business.
This has been a team effort in every sense. I'm incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished, and grateful for everyone at Precision eControl and the customers who helped make this vision real!
